24th Annual African American Celebration

Bertie African American Achievements in Science and the Humanities is the theme for Historic Hope Foundation’s 24th Annual African American Celebration, Saturday, February 18, 2017, 9:30 am to 1 pm at the Roanoke Chowan Heritage Center, Hope Plantation, Windsor, NC.
In the first part of the two-session program Dr. Kashi Bazemore Hall will focus on black female mathematicians in the aeronautics industry. Her presentation will be followed by a discussion of a Bertie African American woman mathematician, Mary Cherry, who was one of the human computers for the 1958 NASA Space Program.
In the second session, Dr. Arwin Smallwood, Professor and Chairman of the Department of History, NC A&T State University will share his research experiences that resulted in his book on the history and culture of Bertie County.
