Oyster Roast

Come on out and join Historic Hope and Vic Thompson for our Oyster Roast on Saturday, January 21st from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.  The cost is $65 per person which includes Oysters, Shrimp, Heavy Hors d’oeuvres, Wine, Beer, and More.  Tickets are selling fast and RSVP no later than Friday, January 13th.

Tour Guide Wanted

Tour guide wanted.  Historic Hope Foundation seeks a docent to work from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, 2 to 3 days a week, including some Saturdays.  Applicants should have an interest in history. Docents explain how our tricultural heritage – Native Americans, European settlers, and African Americans – influenced life in Bertie County in the 18th and 19th centuries and guide visitors through the Hope Mansion and King –Bazemore House.  Resumes should be submitted to president@hopeplantation.org or by mail to President, Historic Hope Foundation, 132 Hope House Road, Windsor, NC 27983.  For additional information, call 252-794-3140.

Seeking Governor David Stone’s Living Descendants

We are assembling a list of list of Governor David Stone’s living descendants. Governor Stone and his wife, Hannah, had 11 children, ten girls and one boy. Only five of the children lived to adulthood and four of those had children of their own. Some surnames of descendants include Pace, White, Daniel, Phillips, Outlaw, Cowan, Pearce, Hale, Webber, Thomas, Turnbull, Hicks, Glah, Price, Harrison, Bridgers, Lewis, Strange, and many others. Dr. Warren Milteer’s Presentation and Book are Available online

Dr. Warren Milteer’s presentation entitled ” Exploring Free People of Color in North Carolina” at our recent Family History and Genealogy Fair can now be seen on the Museum of the Albemarle’s Youtube channel – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGu2wxvQw7g.   Copies of his book can be purchased from our on-line bookstore.

Come and Visit us at the Windsor Farmer’s Markets on Friday

Historic Hope will be at the Windsor Farmer’s Market on Fridays from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm.  Fresh Vegetables, Herbs, Flower Plants, Bread and Handicrafts will be available.  All sales go to support the gardens of Historic Hope. Drop by the Market on Fridays and pick up a little something!
