We are pleased to announce that we our annual Ives Lecture is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 am until 3:30 pm. This year’s title is “Collections and Connections”. Dr. Steven Walker and his wife Lynn will speak on “Hope’s collection of art and ceramics and John Campbell and the Lazy Hill Collection”. Dr. Walker holds a degree in Archaeology and Ancient History and his Lynn is a widely recognized expert in 18th Century ceramics. You can make your reservations on our website by clicking on the Book Now button or by calling our office. You must RSVP and pay by Tuesday, May 14th. The cost is $35 per person which includes the lectures and lunch.
In addition to our collection of eighteenth and nineteenth centuries art, Dr. Walker (as mentioned above) will be speaking on John Campbell and the Lazy Hill collection. Campbell was a legislator, political leader and merchant who lived on Lazy Hill plantation in Colerain from the late 1740s to his death in the late 1770s. Free Perry bought a house that sat on Lazy Hill and discovered a trove of artifacts in an eroded hillside near his house. Examples of these artifacts are on display in our multicultural room in the Heritage Center. If you are unable to attend the lecture, the artifacts will remain on display and can be seen on any of the days we are open (currently Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 3 pm).
